NHS Health Check

The NHS Health Check aims to help you lower your risk of four common but often preventable diseases: heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. It’s for adults in England aged between 40 and 74 who have not already been diagnosed with any one of those four conditions. At the check your risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and diabetes will be assessed, and you’ll be offered personalised advice and support to help you lower that risk. If you are a woman aged 53 - 70 years old and have not had a mammogram in the last 36 months, you can call the Breast Screening Service directly on 020 8383 6644 to arrange an appointment. You can also change & cancel breast screening appointments online at West of london Breast Screening Service.

In England, bowel cancer is the third most common type of cancer. An estimated 38,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
In England, an estimated 16,000 people die from bowel cancer each year.

Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Well Baby

At the Well Baby Clinic you can have your child vaccinated and weighed. The doctor is also available to carry out baby's six-week check-ups or to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your child's development. There is also a health visitor in attendance to offer advice. The clinic is for all children aged up to five years.

Maternity

The antenatal and postnatal clinic is held at the surgery on Mondays between 1.00 and 2.30pm. The first half of the clinic is for postnatal appointments & is lead my the midwives, the second half is for antenatal appointments & is lead by a GP. If you are attending for your first appointment it would be useful if you know which hospital you would like to attend for maternity care. We most commonly refer to St Mary's, Chelsea and Westminster and Queen Charlotte's. If you have no preference or are unsure, the doctor or midwife will discuss the options with you.

Test Results

These may be obtained by telephoning the practice between 9.30am and 4.00pm.

The receptionist may then inform you of the result or you may be asked to book an appointment to see the doctor.

Please remember the receptionist is not allowed to give out any medical information or advice other than the comment the doctor has instructed them to give. If you have any queries you will need to discuss them with a nurse or doctor.

It is our practice policy to give results of medical tests to the patient only. For this reason you may be asked to confirm additional details such as your date of birth or address. For patients aged under 16 years the results will be given to the parents.

Laboratory Specimens

Specimens are sent to the hospital twice daily except on a Wednesday when there is only a morning collection.

If you are asked to bring a specimen please ensure that we receive it no later than 11.30am for the morning collection or 3.30pm for the afternoon collection.

Please ensure that all specimen containers are clearly labelled correctly and placed in the bags provided

Medical Examinations

Medical examinations for special purposes such as fitness to travel, pre-employment, insurance, driving medicals etc are undertaken at the end of morning surgery. A fee will be payable. The various fees are displayed in the reception area. Please contact reception to make an appointment.
